Report: Leverkusen plans to sell Chicharito in summer

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez is reportedly no longer in Bayer Leverkusen's future plans, as the German side looks to cash in on the former Manchester United forward this summer.

Leverkusen has the option to extend Chicharito's contract, but instead will look to offload the Mexican forward once the summer transfer window opens, Stefan Bienkowski of the Guardian reports.

The 28-year-old's form has taken a dip this year compared to last season when he finished fourth in German league scoring.

Considering Chicharito's poor output this season, there's reportedly been little interest in procuring his services in the opening days of the winter transfer window.

It's also believed that - even if teams showed interest - Bayer would be reluctant to sell him in January. It's a decision likely based on the team's poor first half and the expected low-ball offers it might receive from sides looking to acquire Chicharito at reduced cost.

The Mexican international has already come under fire from club director Rudi Voller, who said, "Chicharito now needs to show more. He knows best that he needs to step up his game."

A year after banging in 17 goals during his first season in the Bundesliga, Hernandez has only managed five in 15 league matches.
