Wilfried Zaha has been selected to Ivory Coast's provisional 24-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, nearly 40 months since he won the last of his two England caps.
The Crystal Palace winger became disenchanted by his lack of international opportunities for the Three Lions, so opted to switch his allegiance to his country of birth instead, making him eligible for the African showpiece that begins in January and could last as long as six weeks.
Zaha was able to make the switch due to his England appearances coming in non-competitive fixtures.
The decision to represent Les Elephants has dealt a temporary blow to Sam Allardyce's plans at Palace after he succeeded Alan Pardew last week.
Other Premier League players set to travel with the Ivory Coast include Sunderland's barrel-chested defender Lamine Kone, Manchester United's Eric Bailly, who has been struggling with fitness issues lately, Stoke City loanee Wilfried Bony, and Bournemouth's Max Gradel.
