Report: Alabama's Cooper Bateman to transfer
Alabama quarterback Cooper Bateman is transferring out of the program, sources told Matt Zenitz of AL.com.
Bateman reportedly obtained his release last week. Whether or not he plans to remain with the Crimson Tide through their playoff run reportedly depends on when his future team wants him on campus. There's no word on where Bateman could land, but he'll be eligible to play in 2017 as a graduate transfer.
The junior appeared in 13 games this year, but mostly as a holder for field goals and extra points. He saw little action as a passer after failing to secure the starting job in fall camp for the second year in a row.
Bateman is the second Tide pivot to transfer this season, as former five-star prospect Blake Barnett left the team earlier in the campaign. Bateman has thrown for 410 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions over the course of his career at Alabama.
