Carr: Texans didn't talk to me once before draft

It was always unlikely the Houston Texans would draft Derek Carr after watching his older brother, David, flame out in the early years of the franchise.

Despite a glaring need at quarterback, the Texans passed on Carr and selected guard Xavier Su'a-Filo at the 2014 NFL Draft, allowing the Oakland Raiders to snap up the quarterback three picks later.

With the Raiders and Texans set to face off in Mexico City on Monday night, Carr revealed how little interest Houston showed in him prior to the draft.

"I didn't think so," Carr said when asked if he thought the Texans might draft him, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. "They didn't even talk to me one time. So, I really didn't think so. I would have loved to play for Mr. (Bob) McNair, and I say that just with respect.

"I'm just trying to give a compliment to Mr. McNair. I love him. The city was great to myself and my family. We have nothing but respect for that city and I have nothing but respect for Mr. McNair."

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said the club remains happy with their decision, but with the benefit of hindsight, it was a critical error.

Houston appears close to being a Super Bowl contender, but the hole at the game's most important position is still holding the talented roster back. Brock Osweiler was handed a big-money deal in the offseason, but has fallen far short of expectations.

Carr, meanwhile, is an MVP candidate, having thrown for 2,505 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and just three interceptions.

Asked again if he thought there was any chance he might have become a Texan, Carr replied: "No, definitely not. They didn't say one word to me or talk to me so I didn't think I was going to go there at all."
