Padres' Renfroe hits homer onto Western Metal building roof

Hunter Renfroe, the San Diego Padres' No. 3 prospect, won the Pacific Coast League MVP this season, and he's quickly translating those award-winning skills to the majors.

In just his seventh major-league game Wednesday night, Renfroe became the first player in Petco Park's history to homer onto the roof of the Western Metal Supply Company building that sits in the 12-year-old park's left-field corner with a majestic blast off the Dodgers' Jose De Leon. While homers have hit the building before, the roof has only been reached during batting practice and in this year's Home Run Derby.

Statcast estimated the 434-foot blast left Renfroe's bat at 109.3 mph with a launch angle of 32 degrees.

''It was impressive,'' Padres manager Andy Green told reporters, according to Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune. ''I think we all know he's got a ton of raw power. I wasn't expecting that."

Renfroe finished his day 2-for-4 with four RBIs in the Padres' 6-5 win over Los Angeles. The 24-year-old, who's hitting .381/.409/1.000 with four homers - one of them a grand slam - in his first taste of the majors, has now driven in 11 runs over the Padres' last two games to match Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez for the most RBIs in a two-game span this season.
