Ichiro records 3,000th MLB hit with 7th-inning triple

Isaiah J. Downing / USA TODAY Sports

Miami Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki has recorded the 3,000th hit of his MLB career, hitting a triple in the seventh inning against the Colorado Rockies Sunday.

On a 2-0 count with one out, Ichiro sent a deep fly ball into right field off of Rockies pitcher Chris Rusin that nearly flew over the fence at Coors Field. Instead, the 42-year-old veteran legged out a triple before being mobbed and celebrated by his teammates at third base.

The outfielder is now the 30th player in MLB history to record 3,000 hits, and also the fourth player born outside the U.S. to reach the mark, joining Rafael Palmeiro as well as Hall of Fame members Rod Carew, and Roberto Clemente on the historic list.
