San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly has shot down the prospect of a reunion with his former quarterback Nick Foles.

Kelly praised Foles, who is currently a free agent, but said the club is moving forward with Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick.

"I'm a big fan of Nick, but right now, our eggs are in Kap and Blaine's basket," Kelly said Monday on KNBR 680-AM, according to Cam Inman of mercurynews.com. "We're going to see what those guys can do and we're very confident in both those guys.

"That's really got nothing to do with Nick, but it's got a lot to do with Blaine and Kap in giving them an ample shot at being the quarterback."

While with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013, Foles and Kelly formed an impressive pairing. The passer had a career year, but has been unable to replicate that form elsewhere, leading to speculation Kelly could look to bring him to San Francisco to resurrect his career.

However, the head coach said it would be unrealistic to have three quarterbacks vying for first-team reps.

"If you have three guys in the mix, it gets really diluted," Kelly continued, "and now you're not going to get enough reps for anybody to make a determination on who the quarterback should be."

Gabbert and Kaepernick are expected to battle it out for the starting job all training camp, with both passers given equal reps with the first team, at least until one separates themself from the other.
