Louisville offensive coordinator Garrick McGee has taken the same job at Illinois, according to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg.

The move comes a day after the Fighting Illini officially introduced Lovie Smith as their new head coach. McGee held the same title for Bobby Petrino's Cardinals the past two seasons, and the Louisville head coach confirmed the move Wednesday afternoon. He will also work as the quarterbacks coach.

Although it may seem like a lateral jump, McGee has experience in the conference. Back in 2006-2007, he served as Northwestern's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Illinois is coming off a 5-7 season, featuring losses in six of its last seven games. The Illini were ranked No. 88 nationally in total offense in 2016.
