Iowa State has hired Toledo defensive coordinator Jon Heacock to serve in the same role for the Cyclones, the program announced Tuesday.
Heacock will reunite with Matt Campbell, as the two worked together at Toledo until Campbell took the Iowa State job at the end of November.
Heacock coached the Rockets on an interim basis after Campbell left to run the daily operations at Iowa State. He led Toledo into the Boca Raton Bowl, where the Rockets knocked off a stout Temple team.
Toledo ranked 46th in the FBS in total defense in 2015 and 22nd in scoring defense, as Heacock's unit surrendered 20.8 points per game.
