Tragedy struck the Louisiana Monroe football team Saturday, as quarterback Daniel Fitzwater died at the age of 20.
"The coaching staff and team are deeply saddened by the loss of a great person in Daniel. Our thoughts and prayers are with Daniel's family," Louisiana Monroe head coach Todd Berry said in a release.
No cause of death was announced for Fitzwater, who was a walk-on quarterback on the Warhawks' roster, though he never appeared in a game. He'd recently undergone knee surgery.
"The ULM family is saddened to learn of Daniel's death. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time," said Dr. Nick J. Bruno, Louisiana Monroe president.
