Ole Miss names Chad Kelly starting quarterback against UTM
Chad Kelly will get the ball when Ole Miss takes on UTM in their season opener, head coach Hugh Freeze announced Monday.
Kelly started his career at Clemson in 2012, but after running into some off-field issues, he transferred to Mississippi Community College for the 2014 season before enrolling at Ole Miss in January.
Despite getting the nod in Week 1, Freeze said the quarterback competition is far from over, as both Ryan Buchanan, and DeVante Kincade will see some time in Week 1.
Kincade was the second string pivot behind Bo Wallace last season and completed 16 passes for 127 and one touchdown. He also rushed for 95 yards and a score.
With Wallace taking the vast majority of the snaps, Buchanan was the third string quarterback. He completed 12 passes for 75 yards and one interception.
