The Pittsburgh wide receiver was pulled over early Friday morning by a police officer, who "smelled the moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage about Boyd," according to the police paperwork, obtained by CBS Pittsburgh's Rich Walsh.

According to the officer, Boyd told him that he had "two shots" after watching the NBA Finals game. The officer arrested Boyd after a breathalyzer indicated the presence of alcohol and the 20-year-old was taken to the hospital for a blood test.

“There is suspicion of alcohol, but there are no results of any test at this point,” Jefferson Hills police Sgt. Kevin King told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “At this point no charges have been filed and no results of any toxicology tests at this time.”

Boyd was later released to the custody of a family member.

Panthers head football coach Pat Narduzzi released a statement regarding Boyd:

Tyler's situation is both serious and disappointing. We have high expectations for the young men in our program, on and off the field. Tyler understands that and knows he must be responsible for his actions. Certainly, he will be held accountable to our internal standards of discipline and behavior.

Boyd made it into ACC record books after finishing his 2014 season with 1,261 yards on 78 catches, making him the first conference player to record over 1,000 yards receiving as both a freshman and sophomore.
