OU signee Dalton Wood left campus 'in the middle of the night,' status unclear
Nearly every member of Oklahoma's 2015 signing class has arrived on campus for summer workouts, but the whereabouts of Dalton Wood are a mystery.
Wood, a three-star prospect from McAlester, Okla., reported to OU on Wednesday, only to turn around and leave that same day. He hadn't returned to Norman as of Saturday afternoon, Ryan Aber of The Oklahoman reports.
"I got a call this morning from coach (Cale) Gundy that he had left in the middle of the night," Bryan Pratt, Wood's high school coach, told Aber on Thursday. "I'm not sure what's going on."
Wood spoke to Pratt on Wednesday afternoon and told him that he would be at OU by 7:30 that night, according to Guerin Emig of Tulsa World.
Emig has more:
Wood apparently kept that original appointment and arrived with intentions of setting up his room at Headington Hall, the residence hall for Sooner underclassmen.
But he didn't make it through his first night, making it questionable at best that he ever begins a career at OU. Pratt indicated it was his impression that coaches were willing to allow Wood some time to sort out whatever it is that he is going through.
Wood played quarterback in high school, but was recruited by the Sooners as a tight end. He threw for 1,845 yards and 27 touchdowns with just three interceptions as a senior at McAlester High School, and rushed for 1,198 yards and 20 touchdowns.
