Dak Dillon-US PRESSWIRE

Missouri athletic director Mike Alden announced Thursday he will be stepping down from his role on Aug. 31.

Alden has held the position since 1998, and is expected to become an instructor at the university's College of Education.

He plans on participating in the Positive Coaching Program, according to David Morrison of the Columbia Daily Tribune.

The Tigers made the move to the SEC from the Big 12 in 2012 under Alden's watch and won the conference's east division in 2013 and 2014.
