Georgia Tech runs wild over Mississippi State to claim Orange Bowl
Georgia Tech utilized the triple option to literally run away with the Orange Bowl.
The Yellow Jackets outgained Mississippi State on the ground 452-152 en route to a 49-34 victory Wednesday. The 452 yards is an Orange Bowl record.
Yellow Jackets quarterback Justin Thomas was hell on wheels for the Bulldogs to handle, giving his team their first Orange Bowl win since 1951.
He finished the game with 121 yards on 14 carries with three touchdowns. He also got it done through the air, passing for 125 yards with a touchdown pass.
Running back Synjyn Days was also a menace for the Yellow Jackets. He ran wild for 171 yards with three scores.
The Bulldogs, who were on the quest for their first-ever 11-win season, came as close as 21-20 in the second quarter after quarterback Dak Prescott found wide receiver Fred Ross in the end zone for an improbable Hail Mary play. That connection ended the first half. Ross finished the game with 102 yards on six catches.
Bulldogs running back Josh Robinson, who declared he will be leaving the team to enter the 2015 NFL draft earlier in the day, finished with 75 yards on 13 carries.
Prescott, who has been the Bulldogs' shining light all season, did all that he could to will his team back, but the Yellow Jackets were too much for the dual-threat passer.
He threw for a season-high 453 yards and three touchdowns, and also had an interception and rushed for 47 yards with another touchdown.
