Report: Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly arrested after scuffle with bouncers, police
Chad Kelly was arrested early Sunday after allegedly fighting with bouncers at a downtown Buffalo bar and restaurant, according to Joseph Popiolkowski of The Buffalo News.
The quarterback, who signed a scholarship offer with Ole Miss last week, refused to leave Encore restaurant at about 3:15 a.m., and allegedly punched a bouncer.
Kelly apparently said "I'm going to go to my car and get my AK-47 and spray this place" while fighting with bouncers, according to a report obtained by The Buffalo News.
Buffalo police responded to the alleged threat, stopping a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck in which Kelly was a passenger. Kelly kicked and tried to swing at officers as they forcibly removed him from the vehicle, police said. They said he also resisted getting into a patrol vehicle and struggled with staff at central booking.
Kelly faces multiple charges including third-degree assault, second-degree harassment, second-degree menacing, resisting arrest, fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
Kelly and his companion, Brandon Hickey, were both charged with third-degree criminal trespass. All charges are misdemeanors or violations. Kelly was arraigned later in Buffalo City Court and released without bail to await further court proceedings.
Kelly, a nephew of Buffalo Bills legend Jim Kelly, signed an offer with the Rebels on Wednesday. He had previously played at Clemson, but was dismissed after arguing with coaches on the sideline during a spring game.
