Oregon's Marcus Mariota named Walter Camp Player of the Year
Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota has been named the Walter Camp Player of the Year Thursday.
Mariota is the first Oregon player to earn the award, which is voted on by the country’s 125 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.
“Marcus Mariota’s consistency and overall performance for the high-scoring Ducks has been spectacular,” Walter Camp Football Foundation president James Monico said. “We are pleased to recognize him and join an impressive list of past Player of the Year recipients.”
Mariota threw for 3,783 yards, 39 touchdowns and two interceptions while leading the Ducks to an 11-1 record and a playoff berth in the inaugural college football playoffs.
Other finalists included TCU's Trevone Boykin and Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper.
