Upset of the Night: Oklahoma State knocks off No. 20 Oklahoma
Oklahoma State came from behind Saturday to down 20th-ranked Oklahoma in overtime by a score of 38-35 for the Bedlam upset in Norman.
The Cowboys, down 14 at halftime, trailed for much of the game, but scored the final 17 points to secure the win. They didn't hold a lead at any point before Ben Grogan's game-winning 21-yard field goal in overtime.
Oklahoma began the extra session with the football, but the Sooners failed to gain a first down, and kicker Michael Hunnicutt's 44-yard field goal attempt missed wide left.
The Oklahoma offensive attack was led, not surprisingly, by freshman running back Samaje Perine, who carried the ball 26 times for 151 yards and a score.
The Sooners took a hit when Perine left the game with an apparent ankle injury, but their rushing attack stayed strong the rest of the way, with Keith Ford stepping in and carrying the ball nine times for 91 yards. As a team, the Sooners churned out 304 rushing yards on the afternoon.
Oklahoma State's offense got the boost it needed from freshman quarterback Mason Rudolph, who completed 19 of 35 passes for 273 yards and two scores with an interception.
Rudolph's first touchdown strike came in the second quarter, when he found wide receiver Brandon Sheperd from 39 yards out.
They hooked up again in the fourth quarter from 43 yards out.
The difference-making play came from Oklahoma State's Tyreek Hill, who fielded a punt inside the final minute of the game and returned it 92 yards to the house to tie the game.
Even with the loss, Oklahoma holds an 84-17-7 edge in the Bedlam series, though Oklahoma State has won two of the last four.
This win is particularly important for Oklahoma State because it improves the Cowboys' record to 6-6, making them bowl eligible.
