SEC fines Auburn, Missouri and Ole Miss for fans rushing field this season

The SEC announced Friday that three schools will have to reach into their wallets as a result of their fans rushing the field in reaction to victories earlier this season.

Auburn fans rushed the field after the Tigers' famous 34-28 victory over Alabama in November, a game which ended (as you should know by now) on a 109-yard missed field goal return by Chris Davis.

That evening also produced the fine for Missouri, as their fans took to the field following their 28-21 win over Texas A&M -- which secured a trip to the SEC Championship game.

The scenes were similar after Ole Miss knocked off LSU 27-24 back in October.

While each incident is not at all surprising given the magnitude of the games -- in particular the Iron Bowl -- the SEC does note that fans who storm the field after a game are violating the conference's "Field Access Policy."

Here's what SEC commissioner Mike Slive said about the incident in an official press release:

These were some of the most exciting and intriguing games of the college football season and we understand the exuberance of our fans in the celebration of their schools’ victories, but these incidents pose a significant risk of injury and we must always make the health and safety of our student-athletes and fans the top priority.
