(16) UCF 17, SMU 13: UCF wins eighth straight game and the AAC outright
Central Florida is heading to a BCS bowl game and finished the regular season 11-1 after escaping SMU with a 17-13 victory.
Here's what you need to know:
- This game was played in frigid conditions after an ice storm hit the Texas area around SMU. It forced half the stadium to be closed off as the ice was not able to be removed in time for the game. As a result the attendance was very sparse.
- Blake Bortles led the way for Central Florida after a slow first half. The quarterback started just 8-for-13 with 84 yards after two quarters, but finished 24-of-35 for 242. Bortles also added two rushing scores on the day, including the winning touchdown from 15 yards out.
- Any hopes of an SMU rally were crushed when starting quarterback Neal Burcham went down with an apparent head injury midway through the fourth quarter. Garrett Krstich came in for two drives but had no luck moving the ball. He was just 1-of-5 for 13 yards with an interception.
