Michigan running back Blake Corum will return for his senior season, he announced Monday.

Corum was a leading Heisman Trophy contender before suffering a late-season knee injury and undergoing surgery. The running back - who missed the Big Ten championship game win over Purdue and the College Football Playoff semifinal loss to TCU - ultimately finished seventh in Heisman voting.

He was projected to be one of the first running backs taken if he declared for the 2023 NFL Draft.

The 22-year-old revealed on "The Rich Eisen Show" that he suffered a hyperextended knee, torn meniscus, and sprained MCL, according to Von Lozon of SB Nation.

Corum's decision to return to Michigan stemmed from needing a full meniscus repair surgery, which takes six months to recover from, meaning he'd have missed the entire draft process, sources told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Corum produced 1,463 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior, far surpassing his career-high marks of 952 yards and 11 scores from 2021.

Donovan Edwards stepped up in Corum's absence, running for 639 yards and three touchdowns over the Wolverines' final four games.

Corum and Edwards will form one of the best backfield tandems in college football next season.
