In four seasons at Indiana, Penix recorded 4,197 passing yards, 29 passing touchdowns, and 15 interceptions, as well as 165 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.
Penix was named the Hoosiers' starter ahead of the 2019 season, but he played in only six games due to injury. In 2020, he suffered a season-ending ACL tear. He returned in 2021 but sustained a separated AC joint in his left shoulder and only appeared in five games.
