Florida International named Memphis defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre its new head coach, Golden Panthers athletic director Scott Carr announced Thursday.

MacIntyre, a former Home Depot Coach of the Year at Colorado, has spent the last two seasons on Ryan Silverfield's staff at Memphis. The 56-year-old has experience as a head coach at San Jose State (2010-12) and Colorado (2013-18).

The Golden Panthers have been seeking a replacement for Butch Davis, who led Florida International to three bowl berths from 2017-19 but won just one of his final 17 games with the program. He criticized the school's athletic department for failing to invest in the football program on his way out.

MacIntyre will attempt to turn the Panthers around as he did the Spartans and Buffaloes, though the latter fired him on the heels of a downturn.

He owns a 46-65 career record.
