The annual rivalry matchup between Oklahoma and Texas never fails to disappoint, but Saturday's contest produced something never seen before over the 117-game history of the Red River Showdown.

With backup freshman quarterback Caleb Williams performing brilliantly and leading the way, the Sooners completed the biggest comeback in the history of the clash while erasing a 21-point deficit during their win.

Here are nine crazy things that happened in college football's most electrifying game thus far in 2021.

75-yard TD on the 1st play

How early in the afternoon did we know this contest would be bonkers? By the end of the first play from scrimmage.

Texas opened the affair with a bang as Casey Thompson hit Xavier Worthy for a massive 75-yard touchdown on the first play.

Texas led 28-7 after the 1st quarter

Texas entered play coming off four straight losses to Oklahoma, and the Longhorns have beaten the Sooners by 10-plus points just once since 2006.

Given that history, it was a major shock when Texas held a 28-7 lead after the opening quarter. A Spencer Rattler interception and two punts gave the Longhorns five chances with the ball over the first 15 minutes, and they found the end zone four times.

Caleb Williams' 66-yard TD on 4th-and-1

Oklahoma fans made headlines earlier this season with their chant for prized freshman quarterback Williams to get playing time over Rattler, the preseason Heisman favorite. The notion seemed absurd at the time, but after Saturday it's clear the Sooners' faithful might have known a thing or two.

Williams entered the game and was tasked with converting on a fourth-and-1 with Oklahoma down 21 points. He did that and much more, electrifying the crowd with an incredible 66-yard touchdown run to get the Sooners back within 14.

Rattler was benched, and maybe for a while

Rattler began this season as a top-10 pick in many NFL mock drafts. Now he might be more likely to hit the transfer portal.

Even after Williams' 66-yard touchdown, Lincoln Riley stuck with Rattler for another two series. Riley was then left with no choice after the veteran's second turnover, yanking his starter for the electric freshman.

It's tough to see Rattler getting his job back in Norman after Williams' performance the rest of the way on Saturday.

There was a fox on the field

A fox running on the field during a break in play was somehow about the ninth craziest thing to happen at the Cotton Bowl during the game.

Bijan Robinson goes full Reggie Bush

Bijan Robinson further cemented his case for a Heisman ceremony invite on Saturday, providing a signature moment that reminded viewers of the great Reggie Bush.

Robinson weaved through virtually Oklahoma's entire defense for a 50-yard run to set up a touchdown that pushed the Sooners' lead to 35-17 at the time.

Casey Thompson's 1st half

Oklahoma's defense entered this matchup allowing 7.5 yards per passing play. Then Thompson averaged a whopping 13.7 yards per pass in the opening half.

His four touchdown tosses in the first half tied the all-time Texas quarterback record for the most in a game versus the Sooners. He eventually passed that mark in the second half.

Marvin Mims comes alive

Marvin Mims scored nine touchdowns during his electrifying freshman season for the Sooners last year. Despite that early success, he hadn't scored this campaign prior to Saturday.

That changed in a big way versus Texas, as the sophomore scored two touchdowns at the Cotton Bowl, including a ridiculous 52-yard grab to tie the game late in the fourth quarter.

Near walk-off TD for Kennedy Brooks

It wasn't officially a walk-off touchdown from Kennedy Brooks, but there aren't many better ways to secure a rivalry win.

The junior's 33-yard touchdown with three seconds left sealed the victory for the Sooners, and it was the perfect capper to a career performance for Brooks. He finished with 217 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns, adding his name to a lengthy list of players who have produced legendary performances during the Big 12's best rivalry game.
