Head coach Ryan Day took responsibility Saturday for No. 3 Ohio State's shocking home defeat to No. 12 Oregon.

The Buckeyes - who lost 35-28 - allowed 28 points in the second and third quarters alone. However, when asked about defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs' performance, Day refused to blame his assistant.

"Ultimately, it comes back on me, because I'm the head coach," Day told reporters, including Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors.

The loss marks Ohio State's first-ever defeat to Oregon. It also snapped Day's 23-game winning streak in non-College Football Playoff contests to start his head coaching career.

Additionally, Day acknowledged the Week 2 loss could impact the reigning Big Ten champion's chances at snagging a CFP berth.

"It's not fatal, but it certainly hurts," Day said. "It's unacceptable, and we've got to get it fixed."

Ohio State next plays Tulsa at home Sept. 18.
