Kentucky QB Gatewood enters transfer portal
Kentucky quarterback Joey Gatewood has entered the transfer portal after losing the starting position battle to Will Levis, per The Athletic's Max Olson.
Gatewood previously transferred from Auburn in 2019 after true freshman Bo Nix won the starting job for the Tigers. The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder appeared in six games for the Wildcats during the 2020 season, including a start against Georgia.
Since he previously transferred after the 2019 season, Gatewood will not be granted the one-time transfer eligibility exception and will have to receive a waiver in order to play at a new school immediately.
Levis, another transfer quarterback, arrived in Lexington in the spring after playing for Penn State over the last two seasons. Levis threw for 421 yards and one touchdown during the 2020 season as a backup for starter Sean Clifford.
