D'Wan Mathis transferring from Georgia to Temple
Freshman quarterback D'Wan Mathis is transferring from Georgia to Temple, he announced Monday.
Mathis started Georgia's season opener but was quickly benched for Stetson Bennett and eventually relegated to fourth-string duties behind JT Daniels, Bennett, and Carson Beck.
A native of Oak Park, Michigan, Mathis was a four-star recruit in 2019. He initially committed to Ohio State before flipping his pledge to Georgia after Justin Fields, who began his college career with the Bulldogs, transferred to Ohio State.
Temple faces an uncertain future at quarterback with Anthony Russo in the transfer portal, though Mathis would need a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible in 2021 since he's an undergraduate.
In brief action for the Bulldogs, Mathis completed 12 of 30 passes for 89 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
