Report: Georgia AD McGarity retiring at end of year

Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity will retire at the end of the year, reports Chip Towers of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

An alum of the Georgia journalism program and a former tennis letterman and tennis coach, McGarity has spent the last 11 years leading the Bulldogs' athletic department.

McGarity hired only one football head coach during his tenure, prying Kirby Smart away from Alabama to take over for Mark Richt, whom he dismissed in 2015.

Similarly, he hired just one head coach for the men's basketball program, installing Tom Crean in place of Mark Fox in 2018.

Josh Brooks will take over as the interim athletic director and is expected to garner consideration for the full-time position.
