theScore runs down the top storylines and developments from Saturday's college football games, and what it all might mean moving forward.

It somehow keeps getting worse for Michigan

The COVID-19 pandemic may have opened up a ton of questions for the 2020 season, but one thing is for certain - this is not Michigan's year.

The Wolverines' dismal run sunk to a new depth on Saturday with a dreadful loss at home to a Wisconsin team that hadn't played since Oct. 23. The Badgers' 28-0 lead at half was the worst halftime deficit the Wolverines have faced since opening Michigan Stadium in 1927. The second half didn't prove to be much better, as Wisconsin pulled away for a 49-11 win, the biggest home defeat for Michigan since 1935.

Not only did the Badgers pile up an absurd 341 yards rushing, but the Wisconsin defense held Michigan to just 47 yards on the ground and limited starting quarterback Joe Milton to 98 yards passing. The only good news for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines? The combined record of the next two opponents is 1-7.

Kyle Trask is the Heisman front-runner

With Justin Fields' and Mac Jones' games called off due to COVID-19, the Heisman stage was set for Kyle Trask on Saturday, and the Florida quarterback did not disappoint. Trask torched Arkansas with a brilliant performance in the Swamp, throwing for 356 yards and six touchdowns in a blowout win.

Trask now leads the country with a whopping 28 touchdown passes, the most through six games of a season in SEC history. He also became just the fourth FBS quarterback in the last 25 years to throw at least four touchdowns in six straight games. Don't expect him to cool off either, as Florida still faces Vanderbilt and LSU - two of the worst pass defenses in the SEC.

Nobody has more fun than Ole Miss

They may not be in the running for an SEC championship, but the Rebels absolutely belong in the conversation for the most fun team in the country. Let's go down Ole Miss' case for consideration:

  • An incredibly explosive offense specializing in big plays
  • A defense that struggles to stop anybody
  • Lane Kiffin being Lane Kiffin on the sideline

The Rebels checked all the boxes in emphatic fashion Saturday in a 59-42 shootout win over South Carolina. Ole Miss totaled 708 yards on offense and scored eight touchdowns against the Gamecocks. The Rebels also struggled to stop one of the SEC's worst offenses, allowing South Carolina to pile up 548 yards and 27 first downs. However, the highlight of the game came from Kiffin on Ole Miss' sideline during a perfectly designed 91-yard touchdown pass. Upon seeing a wide-open Elijah Moore secure the catch with nobody around him, Kiffin sprinted down the sideline and tossed his clipboard in the air in celebration.

One way or another, next week's Ole Miss game at No. 5 Texas A&M will be must-watch television.

Notre Dame avoids letdown with impressive win

There would be no letdown from Notre Dame on Saturday. The Irish showed no signs of a hangover one week after knocking off No. 1 Clemson for the program's biggest win under Brian Kelly, thumping Boston College for an impressive victory.

Ian Book turned in another gem following the finest performance of his career, passing for 283 yards and three touchdowns while also adding 85 yards and a score on the ground. Ben Skowronek showed his red-zone dominance with three of his five catches going for touchdowns. Also, Notre Dame's defense was once again dominant, holding the Eagles to just 85 yards on the ground and stopping them 7-of-11 times on third down.

Next week's game against the Tar Heels' high-powered offense is the Irish's toughest remaining test. Win that and a spot in the ACC title game is virtually guaranteed.

USC again turns defeat into victory

It appears USC's plan for the 2020 season is to win with the highest degree of difficulty possible. The Trojans trailed with under two minutes to play for the second straight week, yet they pulled another victory from the jaws of defeat with a dramatic last-minute drive for a narrow 34-30 triumph over Arizona.

Kedon Slovis was brilliant in the dying minutes yet again, driving USC 75 yards in 1:10 to set up the go-ahead score. The star quarterback finished with 325 yards passing on the day, with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Tyler Vaughns grabbing 14 catches.

While the Trojans will be happy with the win, Clay Helton's outfit has issues all over the field. The goal-line offense failed time and again, and the defense struggled to contain both Gary Brightwell and Grant Gunnell. Improving to 2-0 is important, but with a trip to Utah looming, USC won't be able to leave it to the very end against the Utes.

Indiana is not to be doubted

The capital city of Michigan might be Lansing, but it's clear the people who run the state reside in Bloomington, Indiana. The 10th-ranked Hoosiers completed the Michigan sweep in emphatic fashion on Saturday, backing up a home win over the Wolverines last week with a 24-0 hammering of the Spartans. The victory marked the first for Indiana as a top-10 team since 1967.

The duo of Michael Penix Jr. and Ty Fryfogle absolutely dominated Michigan State, connecting 11 times for 200 yards and two scores. Penix finished the day with 311 yards passing, and the Hoosiers' stout defense picked off Rocky Lombardi twice, eventually leading to his benching. They welcomed backup Payton Thorne with a pick as well, pitching their first road shutout since 1993.

The 4-0 Hoosiers now head to No. 3 Ohio State next week for one of the biggest games in program history, and the de facto decider of the Big Ten East.

Miami keeping ACC race interesting

There may not be a team that stresses out its fan base more than No. 9 Miami. The Hurricanes improved to 7-1 on the campaign with their fourth consecutive victory and third straight one-score win on Saturday at Virginia Tech. With the 25-24 triumph, Manny Diaz's outfit has now won its last three contests by a combined nine points.

After getting shredded by NC State last week, the Hurricanes' defense stepped up in a big way, intercepting Hendon Hooker once and holding the Hokies' vaunted rushing attack to just 3.9 yards per carry. The win keeps the ACC interesting, as the Hurricanes are still in position to threaten a potential Notre Dame-Clemson rematch in the championship contest should one of them slip up.
