Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver will likely return on Friday when his team plays Memphis, sources told ESPN.com's Edward Aschoff and Sam Khan Jr.

Oliver has been dealing with a bruised knee since Oct. 20. He's missed four straight games, leaving some to speculate that he could sit out the remainder of the season to maintain his NFL draft stock.

Houston head coach Major Applewhite officially listed Oliver as day to day on Monday morning.

"It's just the same situation that we've had the last few weeks in terms of getting healthier every week, but he's still day to day," Applewhite said. "There have been practices in the last two to three weeks that he's been able to participate in. I wouldn't think that it would be bizarre if he was able to practice this week. Just gonna monitor and look at it day to day."

The 20-year-old declared for the 2019 NFL draft in March and is projected to be a top-15 pick.

Over seven games this season, Oliver has recorded 51 tackles, three sacks, and one forced fumble.

He recently attracted attention after a video emerged of him in a dispute with Applewhite over the jacket Oliver was wearing on the sideline. Both parties cleared the air, stating the argument isn't an issue.
