N.J. high school football coach 'Barefoot Bobby' refuses to work in shoes
Bobby Leach, the head football coach at Wallkill Valley Regional High School in Hamburg, N.J., has a strong aversion to socks and shoes.
According to Matthew Stanmyre of NJ.com, Leach - known as "Barefoot Bobby" - coaches every practice and game in his bare feet, regardless of the weather. There's no significant reason behind it either.
"I just don't like having anything on my feet," Leach said. "If I could be barefoot all the time, I would be."
Asked if his feet ever get cold, Leach replied, "Honestly, they don't. Wait for the next snow storm and you can come take a picture because I'll be standing there in the snow with them."
This season, Leach led the team to an 8-1 record and just its fourth-ever playoff berth. While many of his players find his barefoot habit strange, they speak highly of Leach as a coach.
"His feet, that's his thing," senior Justin Rivera said. "But the way he coaches, he's one of the best coaches I've ever had."
