Southeastern Oklahoma State player talks man out of burglarizing his house

Southeastern Oklahoma State junior offensive lineman Cody Gilroy convinced a burglar to leave his home after he awoke to find the man going through his closet early Friday morning.

Police in Durant, Okla. said Eleasah Horton, 22, burglarized the vehicles of Gilroy and his roommate and took a gun before entering their residence.

"I was kind of scared," Gilroy told Amelia Mugavero of KTEN News. "Says he's there to kill me, and says that he was sent to kill me, and I better watch who I'm messing with."

Gilroy said the suspect told him to find a cigarette and then fired the gun at his kitchen wall, leaving a hole. Gilroy remained calm, though, and was able to get the man out of his house without anyone getting hurt.

"In his conversation with the guy he said, 'I think you have the wrong house,' and quickly de-escalated the situation and the guy finally left," Durant police detective Drew Hale said.

Horton was arrested Sunday and is facing multiple charges, including burglary, concealing stolen property, and reckless conduct with a firearm.

After the suspect was taken into custody on Sunday, police said he admitted to burglarizing the vehicles and taking the gun. Police said Horton also admitted to breaking into Gilroy's residence and firing the weapon.

"It's a big weight off my shoulders getting caught and knowing that that pistol is back," Gilroy said.
