Report: Miami's Richards forced to end career due to neck injury
Miami wide receiver Ahmmon Richards has been forced to end his career due to a disabling neck injury, a source told Barry Jackson and Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald.
Richards appeared in just one game this season because of injury. He was on the cusp of stardom following a stellar rookie campaign in 2016, when he broke Michael Irvin's freshman receiving record at Miami with 934 yards to go along with three touchdowns.
Richards battled injuries as a sophomore and was limited last year to eight contests.
In response to the report, Hurricanes athletic director Blake James said the 20-year-old Richards is "injured." He refused to elaborate on the junior's status.
A pair of tweets from Richards appeared to offer more information about his reported imminent retirement:

Richards garnered plenty of NFL buzz after his freshman season and was once viewed as a likely future first-round draft pick.
The somber news ended what was an otherwise solid day for Miami, which erased a 20-point deficit and rallied to defeat rival Florida State 28-27.
