4-foot-2 wide receiver born without femurs to walk on at Baylor
Ricardo Benitez, a 4-foot-2 wide receiver born without femurs in both his legs, has been invited to walk on at Baylor.
The Texas native committed to Baylor in April, but couldn't afford the tuition. A friend set up a GoFundMe page to help, which raised more than $20,000 in less than two weeks.
"Doctors told my parents I had a condition called Femur Hypoplasia Bilateral and it might be best to stop the pregnancy," Benitez told MaxPreps.com's Lynden Ostrander last year. "They said I had a hole in my heart, would be in a wheelchair the rest of my life and never play sports. But my parents saw me as a gift from God and went on with the pregnancy. I crawled until I was two and didn't start running until I was five."
Benitez had his first day at Baylor this week and thanked everyone for their support.
It brings me so much joy that people came together to make this possible. I started my first day at Baylor University this morning, and I love it so much already. I promise to make everyone who made this happen PROUD. I will not let y'all down🐻! #ThankYou
