Cal transfer Robertson eligible for Georgia immediately

Kyle Terada / USA TODAY Sports

The NCAA has granted former Cal wide receiver Demetris Robertson immediate eligibility to play at Georgia, the Bulldogs confirmed to The Athletic's Seth Emerson on Friday.

Robertson was a major pickup for the Bulldogs in the summer. He posted 50 receptions for 767 yards and seven touchdowns during a stellar freshman campaign in 2016, but a knee injury limited him to two appearances with the Golden Bears last year.

A reason for the waiver wasn't publicly issued, but the NCAA is known to be more lenient on student-athletes that had all or almost all of the preceding season wiped out, as Robertson did.

Robertson, who hails from Savannah, Ga., could be in the mix to immediately start for the Bulldogs, who boast formidable depth at receiver.

Georgia opens the 2018 season Sept. 1 versus Austin Peay.
