When the Oakland Athletics drafted outfielder Kyler Murray ninth overall in June's amateur draft, there was some concern he might not choose baseball over football.

However, the decision has apparently been made. The 2018 season will be Murray's final year playing football as the quarterback for the University of Oklahoma, according to his agent Scott Boras.

"Kyler’s baseball career has a very defined path which includes playing football at OU for only the 2018 season," Boras told Jason Kersey of The Athletic.

Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley was less certain about Murray's future, telling reporters that, as far as he knew, his quarterback's decision wasn't set in stone.

"Well, like I’ve said the whole time, I’ve stayed out of the negotiation stuff with the A’s. That’s not my business. It’s his business," Riley said. "My hope through this whole thing is that Kyler is gonna be able to do what he wants to do. If he wants to go play baseball after this year, then we’ll wish him well and be happy for him. But the ball’s gonna be in his court, which is where it should be."

A two-sport athlete throughout high school and college, Murray is the successor to departed Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield for the 2018 season.

His skills on the baseball diamond were highly touted prior to the 2018 MLB amateur draft. This spring, while playing both sports, he batted .296 with 10 home runs and 47 RBI for Oklahoma.
