Washington State head coach Mike Leach stirred up controversy Sunday night when he tweeted a doctored video of Barack Obama telling a crowd at a 2014 conference in Belgium that "progress can only come when individuals surrender their rights to an all-powerful sovereign."

Leach deleted the tweet Monday afternoon, but went back and forth with followers the previous night about the veracity of the video.

"As a private citizen, Mike Leach is entitled to his personal opinions," Washington State said in a statement Monday, according to USA TODAY Sports' Dan Wolken. "Coach Leach's political views do not necessarily reflect the views of Washington State University students, faculty, and staff."

Leach has publicly supported Donald Trump in the past.

A full transcript of what Obama actually said at the 2014 event is available here.
