Dennis Erickson has made a pitch to Oregon State for a return to the sideline, according to John Canzano of The Oregonian.

Erickson was the head coach of Oregon State from 1999-02, leading the team to an 11-1 record in 2000 - the best season in school history.

Erickson`s pitch to the school brass involves recruiting several former players to take on coaching roles. Former quarterback Jonathan Smith, now Washington`s co-offensive coordinator, and former lineman Kyle DeVan, now Ball State`s offensive line coach, could both be a part of Erickson`s staff.

A 48-year coaching career for Erickson began in 1969, stretching to his most recent gig at Utah from 2014-16 as assistant head coach and running backs coach. His two NFL tenures were as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks from 1995-98, and with the San Francisco 49ers from 2003-04.
