UCF coach Frost taking scout-team QB reps to prepare for Navy

Scott Frost rushed for more than 1,000 yards during his final season as Nebraska quarterback in 1997, so the UCF coach is uniquely qualified to help his team slow down the Navy triple-option this weekend.

To say Frost is taking an active approach for the contest would be an understatement, as the 42-year-old is actually taking snaps as the scout-team quarterback this week in practice.

A team will usually use a bench player to mimic the opposing quarterback on the scout team, but nobody is better suited for the role of Zach Abey than Frost, who wore a chin strap-less helmet in practice this week.

"I love option football," Frost told Terrance Howard of the Associated Press. "I lived it. I feel like option quarterbacks now are kind of like giant pandas, they only exist in zoos and military academies now."

Navy's triple-option attack is the No. 1-ranked rushing unit in the country, while the UCF defense is 19th at stopping the run. On offense, the Knights are without peer this season, leading the country in scoring at 50.6 points per game.

It's bound to be a high-scoring affair this weekend, but Frost's expertise with the option may be the difference for UCF.
