North Carolina's Andre Smith out for season with undisclosed injury

North Carolina will have to find a way to play without one of its most significant defensive contributors, as the team listed Andre Smith as out for the rest of the season on its latest injury report, according to Andrew Carter of The News & Observer.

No specifics of Smith's injury were given, although the junior didn't suit up for the Tar Heels' Sept. 16 game against Old Dominion.

Smith has been a difference-maker for the Tar Heels over the last two seasons, having a particularly big year as a sophomore last year with 113 total tackles, three passes defended, a sack, and a forced fumble.

Smith jumped out of the gate through two games this season, recording 21 total tackles and an interception that he returned for 73 yards.
