Herbstreit blasts recruits calling for Ohio State to bench Barrett
A fired up Kirk Herbstreit ripped into recruits calling for Ohio State to bench quarterback J.T. Barrett, saying on Saturday that the Buckeyes should withdraw scholarship offers to prospects who go down that road.
"Five-star, seven-star, 10-star, I don't care," Herbstreit said on the "College GameDay" pregame show. "Get rid of his ass."
Barrett has been the target of much criticism dating back to the tail end of last season as the Buckeyes' passing game has regressed. After last week's loss to Oklahoma, five-star recruits Micah Parsons and Jackson Carman tweeted, asking Ohio State to replace Barrett with redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins.
"Five-star recruits, some of them think they're more important than they really are. They're very replaceable, they're a dime a dozen," said Herbstreit, who once played quarterback at Ohio State.
Herbstreit defended Barrett's play, pointing to the underwhelming offensive line in front of him and the receivers who have dropped touchdowns, failed to get open, and have run the wrong routes. He added there's no way head coach Urban Meyer should pull the plug on Barrett, a fifth-year senior.
