Report: Baylor to start grad transfer QB Anu Solomon vs. Liberty
Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports
Matt Rhule has apparently decided on Anu Solomon as Baylor's starting quarterback, as a source told Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports that the Arizona grad transfer will get the nod versus Liberty on Saturday.
Solomon was a prolific performer in three seasons with the Wildcats, throwing for 6,922 yards and 49 touchdowns against just 16 interceptions.
The move is certainly a surprising one, as most figured returning sophomore Zach Smith would win the job after a strong finish to the 2016 season.
Smith capped his debut campaign with a 375-yard, three touchdown performance in the Cactus Bowl win over Boise State, but it appears Rhule feels more comfortable with Solomon in his first game as the Bears' head coach.
