Virginia Tech adds Ball State transfer Damon Hazelton

Jim Dedmon / USA TODAY Sports

Virginia Tech received boost to its receiving corps Monday as the school announced that Ball State wide receiver Damon Hazelton has transferred to the Hokies.

Hazelton will be required to sit out the 2017 season as per NCAA restrictions, but will return to the field in 2018 with three years of eligibility remaining.

Hazelton is coming off a freshman campaign with the Cardinals that saw him haul in 51 passes for 505 yards and four touchdowns, good enough to receive the John Hodge Award as the program's top freshman.

Wide receivers Cam Phillips and C.J. Carroll along with running back Travon McMillian are the only returning Virginia Tech players to haul in over 100 receiving yards last season, but head coach Justin Fuente will now have an additional proven option at his disposal a year from now.
