Justin Fuente's first season at Virginia Tech was received so well that the two sides decided to extend their marriage.

The school announced Monday that it signed Fuente to a contract extension through the 2023 season, locking up the fourth-youngest head coach at the FBS level for the next seven seasons.

"Coach Fuente has exceeded our expectations in terms of how well he and his staff have embraced the winning tradition established by Coach Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech, while adding their own distinct touches to enhance the legacy of our program," Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock said in a statement.

Fuente echoed Babcock's sentiments, expressing his desire to continue pushing the Hokies toward success and notoriety within the FBS.

"My family feels incredibly blessed that I'm able to work at Virginia Tech and we're able to call Blacksburg our home ..." he said. "I'm also indebted to our coaching staff and support personnel for their continued loyalty and dedication. ... I'm excited that we'll continue the work that we've begun at Virginia Tech for many years to come."

In his first season at Virginia Tech, Fuente led the Hokies to a 10-4 record, which was good enough for the ACC Coastal Division championship, as well as a Belk Bowl victory over Arkansas. He was also named the AP ACC Coach of the Year.
