The LSU quarterback job appears to be Danny Etling's to lose.

Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron told David Ching of ESPN Etling "has had an excellent offseason" and he is leading the pack right now.

"Danny's the leader clearly right now and will probably end up being the leader," Orgeron said about spring practices.

Etling took over for a struggling Brandon Harris last year, throwing for more than 2,100 yards and 11 touchdowns. While things look good for Etling's chances of remaining the starter, Orgeron didn't close the door on a young pivot like Lindsey Scott stealing the job.

"Before I became head coach, I ran the scout team and Lindsey was my quarterback," Orgeron said. "The year before that, our quarterback was Danny Etling. So I saw that out of Danny. I see the same things out of Lindsey. I think Lindsey's tremendous. He's very smart, he can run the ball, he's strong, throws the ball well. He's going to be right up there in the competition. He is a good quarterback."

Justin McMillan, a three-star recruit from the 2015 class is also in the mix, along with four-star signal-caller Lowell Narcisse, who is recovering from an ACL tear.
