Stanford's Christian McCaffrey: Best rushing performance in Stanford history
McCaffrey rushed for 284 yards on 31 carries, hauled in four catches totaling 22 yards and scored three touchdowns Saturday as Stanford downed California 45-31 on the road in Berkeley.
Analysis:
McCaffrey exploited a California rush defense ranked dead-last in the conference on Saturday, averaging a jaw-dropping 9.2 yards per carry to finish with a new personal-best and Stanford single-game record 284 yards on the ground. The junior also scored on runs from 90, 11 and one yards to tally multiple rushing touchdowns for the third time in four showings and fifth time this year. McCaffrey now enters Week 13 one of only three Pac-12 running backs having already eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing in 2016 and ranked sixth in the conference in average points per game (8.4). He next prepares to close out the regular season in a late non-conference tilt with Rice, a team currently surrendering over five yards a carry to opposing ball carriers.
