And then there were two.
With a 76-yard performance against Wyoming on Saturday, San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey is now only 270 yards behind Wisconsin great Ron Dayne on the FBS all-time rushing list.
Rank | Name | Rushing Yards | Team |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Ron Dayne | 6397 | Wisconsin (1996-99) |
2 | Ricky Williams | 6279 | Texas (1995-98) |
3 | Donnel Pumphrey | 6127 | San Diego State (2013-present) |
4 | Tony Dorsett | 6082 | Pittsburgh (1973-76) |
5 | DeAngelo Williams | 6026 | Memphis (2002-06) |
6 | Charles White | 5598 | USC (1976-79) |
7 | Travis Prentice | 5596 | Miami (Oh.) (1996-99) |
8 | Cedric Benson | 5540 | Texas (2001-04) |
9 | Damion Fletcher | 5302 | Southern Miss. (2006-09) |
10 | LaDainian Tomlinson | 5263 | TCU (1997-2000) |
Pumphrey put former Pittsburgh great Tony Dorsett in his rear-view mirror Saturday night. He now needs 152 to pass Ricky Williams for second on the all-time list, and another 119 after that to end what would be a 17-year reign by Ron Dayne at the top stop.
Pumphrey has two more games to become the FBS' all-time leading rusher: next week's regular-season finale against Colorado State, and the subsequent bowl game to follow.
