Ohio State receiver Gibson suspended for fall semester
Ohio State suspended receiver Torrance Gibson from school for the fall semester Monday for a violation of the student code of conduct.
Gibson sat out his freshman season as a redshirt in 2015, and was set to contend for playing time on an offensive unit that lost multiple players to the NFL.
A highly touted member of the Buckeyes' 2015 recruiting class, Gibson ranked as the No. 2 athlete in the country for his cycle. The 6-foot-5, 207-pound Florida native was a prolific quarterback in high school before making the switch to receiver at Ohio State. His specific role for the upcoming season was undefined, as Urban Meyer told Eleven Warriors at Big Ten Media days in July that he hoped to use Gibson in a "quarterback-slash" role.
Gibson battled immaturity issues and ankle problems in his first year on campus, leading to the decision to redshirt. The specific reason for the suspension is unclear at the moment, but Meyer stated during his Monday press conference that he disagreed with the decision and it wasn't the choice of the athletic department or football program.
