Penn State coaching staff receives 2-year extensions
James Franklin's coaching staff received some financial security from Penn State as they each received two-year contract extensions.
“All of the assistants, their first contracts just ran out. And they all just signed multiple-year, guaranteed contracts. All the strength coaches did. All the administrators. Everybody," Franklin told Derek Laverse of the Times Leader.
The agreements also make it more difficult for staff to jump other programs. Franklin lost defensive coordinator Bob Shoop to Tennessee and offensive line coach Herb Hand to Auburn in the offseason.
“That’s really good from a stability standpoint. It’s helpful,” the Nittany Lions head coach said. “And what we did is, it’s both ways. They have the stability and protections, but we have buyouts as well."
Details of the contracts haven't been released.
Franklin is entering his third season as Penn State head coach, compiling a 14-12 record and two bowl appearances.
