Report: LSU's Donte Jackson declared academically ineligible for spring practice

Crystal LoGiudice-USA TODAY Sports

Donte Jackson suddenly has a lot of time on his hands.

The two-sport LSU star was ruled academically ineligible for the spring semester Tuesday, ending his participation with both the football and track programs, sources told the Baton Route Advocate.

The standout cornerback for Les Miles will not be taking part in spring football practice, and will miss the outdoor track season as a result. While Jackson will miss some valuable time working in new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda's system, he is expected to regain eligibility in time for the 2016 season.

Jackson is expected to fill a starting role in the secondary for the Tigers, but without the benefit of spring practice, there could be someone in his place when LSU takes on Wisconsin at Lambeau Field on Sept. 3.

In 12 games during his freshman campaign, the 5-foot-11 speedster registered 25 tackles and one interception.
